💍 What Is a Ring Size Reference Chart?
A ring size reference chart combines the physical measurements and regional labels used to describe ring sizes. The most useful measurements are inside diameter and inside circumference, which can then be compared with a UK letter size, US/Canada number or EU equivalent.
This page is designed for quick ring-size lookups, international conversion, online shopping and checking a measurement before ordering. Physical measurements matter because regional size labels do not always line up perfectly across different systems.
Published charts can vary slightly between jewellers because of rounding and available size increments. Use this chart as a practical reference, then check the retailer's own sizing guide for the final purchase.
Find a Size in the Chart
Select a UK size or enter a measurement to get the nearest reference row.
Diameter and circumference are the measurements behind the size label
Measure the inside opening of the ring, not its outside edge.
Inside Diameter
Measure straight across the empty centre of a round ring that already fits.
Inside Circumference
The distance around the inside opening provides another shared reference.
Regional Size
The same opening can have a UK letter, US number or EU size label.
The table below provides a broad ring-size reference from small UK letter sizes through extended sizes. Use the physical measurements as your primary comparison, then check the international labels.
| UK Size | US / Canada | EU | Diameter (mm) | Diameter (in) | Circumference (mm) | Circumference (in) |
|---|
Note: Published charts can vary slightly. For a specific ring, use the seller's current sizing guide as the final reference.
Choose the right measurement
Use inside diameter for a round ring that already fits, or a proper finger-sizing method when measuring the finger.
Measure in millimetres
Millimetres make small ring-size differences easier to compare accurately.
Find the nearest chart row
Match the diameter or circumference before relying on the regional label.
Compare UK, US and EU
Use the same row to understand the nearest international equivalents.
Verify the seller's chart
Before purchasing, compare your result with the retailer's current guidance.
UK Ring Sizes
British ring sizing commonly uses letters such as K, L, M, N and O, with half sizes also available.
US / Canada
North American sizing commonly uses numbers with full, half and sometimes quarter-size increments.
EU Sizes
European sizing is numerical and often closely associated with circumference-based values.
Measurements Connect Them
Diameter and circumference provide the common physical basis for comparing size labels.
Conversions Are Approximate
Not every size step has a perfect equivalent in another regional system.
Check the Retailer
For the final purchase, use the current chart supplied by the jeweller selling the ring.
Inside diameter is the straight-line distance through the empty centre of a ring. Inside circumference is the distance around that inner opening. The two are mathematically related, but chart values may be rounded.
A chart converts measurements into labels, but it cannot test how the ring passes over the knuckle or how it feels where it sits. Professional sizing uses finger gauges and ring mandrels to assess real fit.
Band width matters too. Wider bands usually feel tighter than narrow rings, so a wide wedding band or stacked bridal set can need different fit consideration even when the nominal chart size is unchanged.
Reference first, physical fit second
Use the chart to narrow down the likely size. For engagement rings, wedding bands, valuable jewellery and difficult-to-resize designs, confirm the final size professionally.
- 📏Measuring the outside of a ring instead of its inside opening.
- ⭕Using a bent or oval ring to estimate diameter.
- 🔄Assuming every international chart uses exactly the same conversion values.
- 🖐️Using a ring from a different finger or opposite hand as an exact reference.
- ↔️Ignoring band width when moving from a slim ring to a much wider design.
- 🛍️Ordering without checking the seller's size chart and exchange policy.
First identify the sizing system used by the retailer. UK stores often use letters, American retailers often use US numbers and European sellers may use EU sizes. Use the reference chart to compare them through diameter and circumference.
If two charts disagree, compare the physical measurements and ask the seller which option they recommend. Also review resizing and exchange policies, especially for eternity rings, heavily stone-set bands and materials that can be difficult to resize.
