🖨️ What Is a Printable Ring Size Chart?

A Printable Ring Size Chart is a home sizing guide that allows you to compare a ring you already own with printed circles representing different inside diameters.

The basic idea is simple: print the sizing page at its intended physical scale, check that the calibration measurement is correct, and then place a ring that fits over the printed circles. The best match can give you an approximate UK letter size.

Printing accuracy is critical. If a browser or printer automatically shrinks, enlarges or fits the document to the printable area, the circles will no longer represent their intended millimetre measurements.

That is why this Printable Ring Size Chart includes a 50mm calibration line. Measure that line with a real ruler after printing. If it does not measure exactly 50mm, do not use the printed circles for sizing.

1

Choose A4 Paper

Use standard A4 paper and ensure the print orientation and page settings do not automatically scale the content.

2

Select 100% or Actual Size

Avoid settings such as Fit to Page, Shrink to Fit or Scale to Printable Area when they alter the physical dimensions.

3

Measure the Calibration Line

Check the printed 50mm line using a physical ruler before relying on any of the ring circles.

4

Match the Inside Edge

Place your ring over a printed circle and compare the circle with the inside opening, not the outside diameter of the ring.

📋 How to Print a Ring Size Chart Correctly
1

Open the Print Dialog

Use the Print Ring Size Chart button above or your browser's standard print command.

2

Select A4 Paper

Choose A4 as the paper format where your printer settings allow it. This page is designed around an A4 printable sizing area.

3

Set Scale to 100% or Actual Size

Look for print-scale controls. Use 100%, Actual Size or an equivalent setting that preserves the physical dimensions of the page.

4

Turn Off Automatic Scaling

Avoid options such as Fit to Page or Shrink Oversized Pages if they change the page dimensions.

5

Print One Test Copy

Print the page once before relying on the sizing circles. You do not need to make multiple copies until scale is confirmed.

6

Measure the 50mm Calibration Line

Place a real ruler against the calibration line. If the line does not measure exactly 50mm, correct your print settings and print again.

7

Compare an Existing Ring

Place a ring that already fits the intended finger over the circles. Find the circle whose outer line sits closest to the inside edge of your ring.

💍 How to Match a Ring to the Printed Circles

The printable circles represent approximate inside ring diameters. This means the printed line needs to match the empty opening of the ring rather than its outside edge.

Place the ring flat on top of the paper and look directly down from above. If you view the ring at an angle, perspective can make one circle appear to match more closely than it really does.

The ideal printed circle should sit very close to the inner edge all the way around the ring. If you can clearly see paper between the printed line and the inside of the ring, try the next larger circle. If the printed line disappears underneath the metal, try a smaller circle.

If the reference ring is not perfectly circular or has been distorted, a printable circle comparison may be less reliable. In that case, measure the inside diameter directly or use a physical ring sizer.

⚠ Common Printable Ring Size Chart Mistakes
📄

Using Fit to Page

Automatic scaling can shrink the chart and make every printed ring circle smaller than intended.

🔎

Ignoring the Scale Check

Never assume a printout is accurate. Measure the 50mm calibration line before matching your ring.

⭕

Matching the Outside Edge

Ring sizing is based on the inside opening. Do not align the printed circle with the outside of the jewellery.

💍

Using the Wrong Ring

Choose an existing ring worn on the same finger for which the new ring is intended.

👁️

Viewing at an Angle

Look directly down on the ring and circle to avoid a misleading visual match caused by perspective.

1️⃣

Relying on One Method

For an important purchase, compare the printable result with diameter measurement or professional sizing.

📄 Printable Ring Chart vs Paper Finger Measurement

A printable ring chart works best when you already have a ring that fits the intended finger. You match its inside opening against printed circles.

A paper-strip method works differently. Instead of measuring an existing ring, you wrap paper around your finger and record the circumference in millimetres.

Neither method is automatically better in every situation. If you have a well-fitting reference ring, measuring its inside diameter or using a correctly scaled printable chart can be convenient. If you do not own a suitable ring, measuring your finger circumference may be more practical.

See our Measure Ring Size with Paper guide for detailed finger-measurement instructions.

🎯 When a Printable Ring Size Chart May Not Be Enough

A printable ring size chart is most useful as a home estimate. There are situations where confirming the result professionally is more important.

Consider professional sizing before ordering an expensive engagement ring, wedding ring, eternity band, bespoke ring, extra-wide band or a design that may be difficult to resize later.

The width and internal profile of a finished ring can influence how it feels even if its nominal UK letter size matches your reference ring. A broad band may feel more snug than a narrow ring of the same size.

If your chosen ring is wide, compare band measurements in our Ring Width Size Chart.

🖨️ Why Print Scale Matters More Than Screen Size

Do not try to hold a physical ring against the circles displayed on your computer or phone screen. Screens differ in pixel density, zoom level, browser scaling and physical dimensions, so an on-screen circle is not guaranteed to represent its stated measurement.

The printable chart is designed to use physical CSS millimetre dimensions during printing. The calibration line then gives you a way to verify the actual output produced by your printer.

If the 50mm calibration line measures correctly on paper, you have much more confidence that the ring circles have retained their intended scale. If it does not measure correctly, do not compensate by guessing — adjust the printer settings and reprint.

🏪 Printable Chart vs Professional Ring Sizer

A professional ring sizer gives the wearer the opportunity to physically try different sizes rather than estimating fit from an existing ring. This can reveal how the ring passes over the knuckle and feels at the base of the finger.

Printable charts are convenient for initial sizing, online shopping and situations where you already have a well-fitting reference ring. They are particularly useful when you want to narrow the likely size before visiting a jeweller.

For an important purchase, use a printable result together with another method rather than treating a home printout as a guarantee of fit.

🖨️ Most Important Printable Ring Size Chart Rule

Never use a printed ring chart until you have measured its calibration line with a physical ruler. Print at 100% or Actual Size, confirm the 50mm line is exactly 50mm, match the inside edge of a well-fitting ring, and professionally confirm valuable or made-to-order jewellery before purchase.

❓ Printable Ring Size Chart FAQs
How do I use a Printable Ring Size Chart? ▼
Print the chart at 100% or Actual Size, measure the calibration line to confirm the page has printed correctly, then place a well-fitting ring over the circles and find the circle that aligns most closely with the ring's inside edge.
Should I print the ring chart at 100%? ▼
Yes. Use a setting such as 100% or Actual Size that preserves the physical measurements. The final check is the calibration line: it must measure exactly 50mm on the printed paper.
Can I use Fit to Page? ▼
Fit to Page can change the chart dimensions, so it should not be used if it scales the page. Confirm the result with the calibration line after printing.
Can I measure my ring directly on my phone screen? ▼
It is not recommended because screen size, browser zoom, pixel density and display scaling differ between devices. Use the printed chart and verify its physical scale instead.
Do I match the inside or outside of the ring? ▼
Match the printed circle to the inside opening of the ring. Ring size is based on internal dimensions, so the outside edge of the metal should not be used.
What if my ring falls between two printed circles? ▼
Repeat the comparison and measure the inside diameter with a ruler or callipers if possible. Some jewellers offer half sizes, so the final choice may sit between two full UK letters.
Can I use any existing ring? ▼
Use a ring that fits the same finger and preferably the same hand where the new ring will be worn. Different fingers can require different ring sizes.
Is a printable ring chart accurate? ▼
It can provide a useful estimate when the print scale is correct and a suitable reference ring is used. Printer scaling, ring shape, measurement rounding and jewellery design can still affect the result.
Does ring width affect the result? ▼
The printed circles estimate the internal ring size, but a wide finished band can feel more snug than a narrow ring with the same nominal size. Try a similar-width sizing ring before buying a broad band.
Should I confirm my size with a jeweller? ▼
For engagement rings, wedding rings, bespoke jewellery, wide bands and expensive or difficult-to-resize designs, professional sizing is a sensible final check.
Printing and sizing note: Printable sizing depends on the physical output of your printer. Always verify the calibration measurement before using the chart. UK ring-size measurement references can also vary slightly between jewellers because of rounding and manufacturing practices.
