📄 What Is a Ring Measuring PDF?

A Ring Measuring PDF is a printable ring-sizing guide designed to help you take basic ring measurements at home. It can include a paper measuring method, existing-ring comparison circles, diameter references and a UK ring size chart.

This page includes a printable A4 section that you can send directly to a printer or save as a PDF through your browser's print dialog. The key requirement is preserving the intended physical scale.

If a printable sizing guide is reduced or enlarged, the ring circles no longer represent their intended diameters. That is why the printable section contains a 50mm calibration line. Measure the line after printing and only use the chart if the line measures exactly 50mm.

For an important engagement ring, wedding ring or bespoke piece, use a Ring Measuring PDF as a practical starting point and confirm your final size with the retailer.

UK Ring Measuring Guide

Print at 100% / Actual Size. Check the 50mm calibration line before using the ring circles.

1. Verify the PDF Print Scale

Measure the line below with a physical ruler after printing. It must measure exactly 50 millimetres.

If the line is not exactly 50mm, change your print settings and print again.

METHOD A — Finger Circumference

Wrap a narrow non-stretch paper strip around your ring finger. Mark the overlap, flatten the strip and measure the length in millimetres.

METHOD B — Existing Ring

Place a well-fitting ring over the printed circles below. Match the printed line to the inside edge of the ring opening.

CHECK YOUR KNUCKLE

The finished ring must pass over your knuckle while remaining secure at the base of the finger.

REPEAT THE MEASUREMENT

Take several measurements. Similar repeated results are more reliable than one quick reading.

Existing Ring Circle Matcher

The circles represent approximate inside diameters. Use the inside edge of your existing ring.

📋 How to Save and Print the Ring Measuring PDF
1

Open the Print Window

Click the Print / Save Ring Measuring PDF button above. Your browser will open its standard printing interface.

2

Choose Print or Save as PDF

To create a digital copy, choose your browser or operating system's “Save as PDF” option. To use the sizing circles physically, choose your printer.

3

Select A4 Paper

Use A4 portrait paper for the printable sizing sheet where your printer settings provide that option.

4

Use 100% or Actual Size

Do not intentionally enlarge or reduce the printable sizing sheet. Look for settings such as 100% or Actual Size.

5

Avoid Fit to Page Scaling

Automatic fitting can change the physical measurements of the circles. If your print software scales the document, the chart may no longer be accurate.

6

Measure the 50mm Calibration Line

After printing, place a ruler against the calibration line. Only continue if the line measures exactly 50mm.

7

Match Your Ring or Measure Your Finger

Use either the printed diameter circles or the finger circumference method depending on which measurement is available.

📄 Measuring Finger Circumference With Paper

If you do not have a suitable existing ring, you can use a narrow strip of paper to estimate finger circumference.

Wrap the paper around the base of the exact finger where the ring will be worn. Keep the strip snug without pulling it so tightly that it compresses your skin.

Mark the exact point where the end of the strip overlaps. Lay the paper flat and measure from its starting edge to the mark using a ruler with millimetre divisions.

That measurement represents your approximate finger circumference. Compare it with the UK table below or use our Ring Circumference Chart.

For detailed instructions, see Measure Ring Size with Paper.

💍 Measuring an Existing Ring With the PDF

If you already have a ring that fits the intended finger, it can provide a useful sizing reference.

Print the PDF section at the correct scale and verify the 50mm calibration line. Then place the ring directly over the printed sizing circles.

Look straight down from above and find the circle that aligns most closely with the inside edge of the ring. The printed line should sit close to the inner opening all the way around.

Do not match the outside edge of the jewellery. The thickness of the metal is not part of the inside diameter used for ring sizing.

Note: Ring charts are practical references and may use slightly different rounding between jewellers. Always compare an important purchase with the supplying retailer's size chart.

🎯 How to Make a Ring Measuring PDF More Accurate
📏

Verify the Calibration

Never trust the printed circles until the 50mm reference line has been checked with a real ruler.

🔎

Use Actual Size

Automatic page scaling can change every ring diameter printed in the PDF.

💍

Use the Correct Ring

Choose a reference ring that fits the same finger and preferably the same hand as the intended new ring.

⭕

Match the Inner Edge

Size circles correspond with the inside opening, not the ring's outside diameter.

🔁

Check More Than Once

Compare several nearby circles and repeat the process before deciding on a letter size.

🏪

Confirm Important Rings

For a valuable or bespoke ring, use a physical jewellery sizing check as your final confirmation.

↔ Ring Measuring PDF and Band Width

A printable diameter circle can help identify the internal size of a reference ring, but it cannot fully reproduce how a different-width finished ring will feel on the finger.

A wide wedding band covers more skin than a narrow ring and can therefore feel more snug even when the nominal UK size is the same.

For wide rings, use the PDF measurement as a starting point and try a physical sample with a similar width where possible.

Compare 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 6mm and wider designs in our Ring Width Size Chart.

🖨️ Ring Measuring PDF vs Printable Ring Size Chart

The terms Ring Measuring PDF and Printable Ring Size Chart are often used for very similar resources, but the emphasis can be slightly different.

A printable ring chart usually focuses on diameter circles for comparing an existing ring. A broader ring measuring PDF can also include paper finger measuring instructions, circumference conversions, size tables and calibration information.

This page combines both approaches so you can print one useful reference for home measurement.

You can also visit our dedicated Printable Ring Size Chart for a circle-matching guide.

⚠ Common Ring Measuring PDF Mistakes
📄

Using Fit to Page

Page-fitting settings can shrink or enlarge physical reference circles.

📏

Skipping Calibration

The PDF may look correct while still being physically scaled incorrectly. Always check the 50mm line.

📱

Measuring Against a Screen

Phone and monitor scaling varies, so use a correctly printed copy rather than trusting on-screen physical dimensions.

⭕

Using the Outside Edge

Printed ring circles must match the inside opening of the reference ring.

☝️

Using Another Finger

A ring that fits one finger may not provide the correct size for another.

1️⃣

Relying on One Result

Compare with another method or professional fitting before an important purchase.

❓ Ring Measuring PDF FAQs
What is a Ring Measuring PDF? ▼
A Ring Measuring PDF is a printable sizing guide that can contain ring diameter circles, finger measuring instructions, UK size conversions and a scale calibration reference.
How do I save this ring measuring guide as a PDF? ▼
Click the Print / Save Ring Measuring PDF button and choose your browser's Save as PDF option instead of a physical printer.
What size paper should I use? ▼
The printable area is designed for A4 portrait printing. Always check the 50mm calibration line regardless of the selected paper settings.
Why must I print at 100%? ▼
The ring circles use physical millimetre measurements. Reducing or enlarging the document changes the diameter of those circles.
What is the 50mm calibration line for? ▼
It lets you check whether your printer preserved the intended scale. Measure the line with a physical ruler. If it is not exactly 50mm, do not use the ring circles.
Can I measure my ring directly on my phone? ▼
Do not rely on on-screen physical dimensions because display scaling and pixel density vary between devices. Print the guide and verify its calibration instead.
Should the printed circle match the inside or outside of my ring? ▼
Match the printed circle with the inside opening of the ring. The outer metal edge is not the ring-size diameter.
Can I use the PDF without an existing ring? ▼
Yes. Use the finger circumference method with a narrow paper strip and compare your measurement in millimetres with the UK ring size table.
What if my measurement falls between two UK sizes? ▼
Repeat the measurement first. Some jewellers provide half sizes, and band width, knuckle size and ring profile can influence the final choice.
Is a Ring Measuring PDF accurate enough for an engagement ring? ▼
It can give a useful estimate when printed and used correctly, but an engagement ring can be valuable and may have resizing limitations. Professional sizing is a sensible final check.
Does ring width affect the size? ▼
A wider ring may feel more snug than a narrow band of the same nominal size. Test a similar-width sizing sample where possible.
Should I still visit a jeweller? ▼
For expensive, bespoke, wide or difficult-to-resize rings, professional measurement is recommended before placing the final order.
Important: This Ring Measuring PDF is intended as a practical home sizing guide. Print scale, measuring technique, finger conditions, knuckle size, band width and individual retailer sizing can all influence the final fit.
